Reception WB 14th September

Date: 18th Sep 2020 @ 7:36pm

It has been a wonderful week here in Reception and the children are making some superb progress.

In phonics this week we have been learning our first sound which is ‘m’. On Monday we looked at how to form the letter before moving on to identifying initial sounds, making cvc words (consonant, vowel, consonant) and spotting mistakes in words. This year for phonics, we will be looking at one sound per week so next week we will move on to looking at ‘a’.

In maths, we have been looking at the numbers 1 and 2. We started by watching ‘number blocks’ videos before finding, forming and showing the numbers. Many children were confident with writing the number one, but number 2 is a little trickier. We have taught the children the rhyme ‘half a heart says I love you, draw a line to make number 2’. We will continue to work on this next week before moving on to number 3.

Also, this week we have worked on drawing self-portraits, writing our names, fine motor skills and pencil grip as well as singing nursery rhymes.

As we have packed a lot in to the mornings of this week, I imagine the children will be extremely tired this evening and over the weekend. Next week as we head into full days (8.50am-3.20pm), we will be taking it slowly during the afternoons with the aim of getting up to a full time timetable the week after.

Tapestry will be set up over the course of next week to with the aim of all accounts being activated by Friday 25th September. If I do not have your email address, please pass it to the school office so that we are able to add you to your child’s account.

Some of you may have seen on the topic web that we have a ‘dress up day’ scheduled for Wednesday 30th (the week after next). The children will be introduced to the story of Cinderella next week and we will begin to introduce our Literacy topic, so just in case anyone has missed the event, it’s one to add into the calender.

A quick reminder that starting next week, we politely ask that only 1 adult comes to collect and drop off. This is to support our social distancing efforts and all other parents are required to do this. Thank you for your understanding.

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday.

The Reception Team.
