Reception Class Blog - W.B. 10th September

It has been a wonderful week in Reception and we both feel extremely privileged to teach such a delightful class.

The week started by counting and identifying numbers in maths. The children had to try and rescue 12 bears from the mess in the classroom and they did extremely well with this. Finding shapes and naming them has been our maths activity over the last few days and they have excelled all of our expectations.

We have assessed the children’s understanding of letters and words which has formed a good foundation for our groups as we will start our phonics lessons next week. Each child will be starting by looking at the set one sounds which can be found on our class page. These sounds will enable them to identify key parts of stories and begin their reading journey. You should find your children’s word wallet in their bag this week, please take a look.

Marble paint, play dough and sponge painting has been our focus for expressive arts this week. The children used different sponges to colour the numbers one to twenty. Whilst doing this they were able to name colours and talk about the different shades. We started our marble painting today and that was a huge hit with many children and something we will continue next week.

In PE this week we have started our running and ball skills. I thing they enjoyed the most was changing into their PE kits; although this isn’t meant to be the sole attraction it’s been wonderful for their fine motor skills.

Our Friday afternoon finished with some much needed quiet time. We snuggled up with pillows and blankets and pretended we were at the cinema.
