Reception blog - w/b Monday 14th June

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 4:31pm

Hello everyone,

We have had a wonderful week in Reception with so much going on and so many different activities, it is difficult to know where to start! I think that on reflection, Beach Day was the stand-out day for the children, and let's be totally honest, who wouldn't like a paddling pool, bucket and spade, picnic lunch and ice lollies on a glorious summer day in Brereton?

We followed that on Thursday with a first school visit to St. Oswald's church, and I could not have been happier or prouder of the way the whole class walked to and from the church, and behaved so beautifully once we were inside - I have a feeling we'll be welcome back again! Taking the whole class out of a classroom often makes you see a different aspect to their character, and it is very sad that this has been the only opportunity that the teachers have had to do a visit during this school year, but I am certain that Mrs McLean will authorise many more school trips for this class as they move through the school.

Contrary to last week's blog (I really should look at the plans more carefully!), in maths this week we have been measuring things, first with non-standard equipment: books, blocks, straws; then moving on to using a ruler to measure things around the classroom.

Next week, children across the school will be doing a lot more active lessons outdoors as part of our Sports Week. Given that both Miss Wellings and Mrs Sherliker-Hewitt are expecting babies (and we couldn't be more excited about that!), our class will be doing some extra PE lessons on Thursday, in addition to our normal Friday session; the children can come in PE kits for both days at the end of next week. On a related subject, you will probably have seen the letter about the pool that is currently situated in the school car park, and that on July 2nd the class will have opportunity to go 'swimming' in this pool before it is packed up and returned to the rental company. If you have a child in either year 3 or 4, then I'm sure they've told you how much fun these classes are having during their lessons, but if you have any concerns or questions about this scheduled session in 2 weeks time, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and see you on Monday!
