Our first full week back at school!

Date: 17th Sep 2016 @ 7:44pm

We had a great first full week back in year 2! As well as Maths and literacy, topic and PE, this week we started Science, as well as phonics and guided reading.

This week our focus in phonics was on the 'j' sound, which is made by ge, gi, gy, and dge. The children this week investigated the sound and have been sorting and looking at a variety of ways of learning the year 2 spelling rule. Thank you for your support in helping the children to learn their spellings at home. Ronnie was our Speller of the Week and was sent a text home on Friday, for finding words in our Science lesson that had the 'j' sound in.

In literacy this week we have been starting our Talk for Writing style of approach to the focus text 'Jack and the Dragon.' The children have enjoyed learning the words and actions to the book and later in the week we used a story board to sequence and write the story.

In maths, we have again focussed on place value, looking at estimating using number lines, as well as using the signs < and > for greater than and less than.

In topic we have been looking at the Royal family and in science we have been looking at staying healthy and all the different food groups.

As we mentioned in last week's blog, homework should be starting from next week as normal.

As always, keep up the reading at home and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
