Last week of term - Week beginning 27th March

Date: 10th Apr 2017 @ 3:42pm

Good afternoon,

I hope you are all having a wonderful break and are enjoying some time with your families. I am just posting a short blog so that you all see some photos from our very exciting and fun filled last week at school. My apologies that this has not been put up sooner; technology was not on my side.

During the last week in English we enjoyed publishing our stories based on Captain Yellowbelly; these are now up on our publishing pegs and we are all very proud of them.  Before we started to use ‘posh’ paper, we had to check our work and correct any mistakes. This worked really well and the children were independently able to recognise a few spelling mistakes in their work.

In Maths we looked closely at division and sharing out our Easter presents. We were diving by 2, 5 and 10, using apparatus to help us when needed. Although division can be a difficult concept to understand, the use of chocolates and baskets really helped. We will continue to look at this over the summer term.

Over the last half term, we have worked really hard as a team to collect marbles. These marbles are earned for a variety of reasons, such as; using manners, being kind and friendly, helping each other, working as a team, playing with different friends, completing work to the best possible standard, making the right choices and  being the best that we can be. Once the marble jar is full (with a total of 50 marbles) the children are allowed to choose any prize that they would like. This time they chose an Easter egg hunt with extra time to play. This is exactly what happened, we spent an afternoon outside in the glorious sunshine, looking for Easter eggs and playing on the field. I hope we can collect just as many next half term!

On Friday 24th March we all took part in a sponsored walk. We all had a wonderful time raising money for preschool. All children were able to complete at least 10 laps, with some children completing as many as 25. Also well done to all children who took part in the bonnet competition, they were all fabulous!

I hope the activity packs have been useful over the holidays. They are optional but will prepare the children for their learning when they return after Easter. Please continue to read every day as well as practising the year 1 high frequency words.

I hope you enjoy looking through our photographs.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter weekend and see you back at school on Tuesday 18th April.
